1998 was the first time Racial Justice Day was organized by the Coalition Against Police Brutality, a group of grassroots organizations that included CAAAV, the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights (NCPRR), Forever in Struggle Together, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, and the Audre Lorde Project. In previous years Racial Justice Day was organized by NCPRR.
