Jee Mee Kim's illustration of Yong Xin Huang's Vigil
Title
Jee Mee Kim's illustration of Yong Xin Huang's Vigil
Description
This sketch appeared on the front page of CAAAV's Winter 1996 issue of 'The Voice.' The illustration accompanied the article "Giuliani's Police Makes War on Our Communities." The article included updates on the campaign for justice for Yong Xin Huang. On October 10, 1995, while CAAAV and other community coalition leaders met with US Attorney Zachary Carter to demand a federal investgiation into Huang's murder, CAAAV's Justice Committee for Yong Xin Huang held a memorial outside the Department of Justice.
Kim's illustration depicts a crowd of mourners, many holding signs. Some signs read "Remember Yong Xin Huang" and "Justice Now." One mourner plays a flute.
