Rainbow Center Event

Title

Rainbow Center Event

Description

Footage of a church service and subsequent community meal and event held at the Rainbow Center. Speeches made mostly in Korean. Speech in English in P5. Also Korean musical, dance, and comedy performances.

The Rainbow Center was a community center in Flushing, Queens. Founded by Reverend Henna Han, the Rainbow Center provided emotional, social, and cultural support to Korean women. The Center also specifically served Koren women married to men in the American military, and their families. Its founding was inspired by the wrongful sentencing of Chong Sun France, whose 1987 murder conviction was later commuted in 1993 when France was released into the custody of Reverend Hannah Hahn. In 2014, the Rainbow Center merged with The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC), and the building now serves as a safe house for victims of domestic violence.
