DMSC Pamphlet

Title

DMSC Pamphlet

Description

This pamphlet explains the origins, objectives, and successes of the Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC, Committee for the Co-ordination of Women), an organization that advocates for the rights of sex workers in east India. It details the marginalization of sex workers in Indian society, and how from its origins, DMSC sought to recognize sex workers as whole human beings. Their goals are to improve working conditions, obtain legal recognition of prostitution as a legitimate profession, and to bar minors from entering the industry. Some of their successes include registering a consumer cooperative under their name, establishing a team to market condoms across the country, and organizing a carnival for sex workers from all over the world to converse and celebrate life.
