Young Demonstrator Protests Film Debut of Rising Sun
Title
Young Demonstrator Protests Film Debut of Rising Sun
Description
A young protestor is pictured holding a printout of the movie poster for Rising Sun in the right hand while the left hand is making a thumbs down. There are more demonstrators behind the young person, some holding signs, and a cameraman can be seen as well.
This photograph takes place on July 30, 1993 in Times Square. Demonstrators were protesting the film debut of Rising Sun, a film made highly controversial due to its xenophobic and racist portrayal of Asians, especially Japanese men who were depicted as “venal and sexually deviant foreigners bent on taking over American institutions" [1].
