Kilawin Kolektibo members and other groups march in the Philippine Independence Day Parade
Title
Kilawin Kolektibo members and other groups march in the Philippine Independence Day Parade
Description
Members of Kilawin Kolektibo, a Filipina/Pinay lesbian collective, march in the 1999 Philippine Independence Parade. They are holding signs that read, "MARS," which is a Filipino slang term for a femme lesbian, and "PROUD 2 B PINAY PROUD 2 B TIBO." Tibo is another Filipino slang term that can mean tomboy, dyke, or lesbian, and although it can be used as a derogatory term, it is also often reclaimed by members of the Pinay lesbian community who use it to refer to themselves. Other marchers from other organizations can be seen marching in the background, including the Women Workers' Project of CAAAV.
