Demonstrators outside the Montefiore Family Health Clinic
Title
Demonstrators outside the Montefiore Family Health Clinic
Description
Demonstrators holding signs in English outside the Montefiore Family Health Clinic in the Bronx. The signs read, "Stop Discrimination" and "Translation Provides Language Skills, Assistance, Services, Good Health."
CAAAV's Youth Leadership Project (YLP) organized actions at Montefiore to protest the clinic's decision to eliminate Southeast Asian translation services. The rollback of healthcare access at Montefiore, which served a growing Vietnamese and Cambodian population in the Northwest Bronx, came at a time when poor communities of color were already struggling with the consequences of devastating welfare reforms and cuts to public services.
