People of Color Against State Violence demonstration
Title
People of Color Against State Violence demonstration
Description
In these photos, a multiracial group of protestors hold signs and march behind a large banner with the words "END WHITE SUPREMACY NOW." Other visible signs read, "And WHO will PROTECT US from the POLICE?", "People of color against STATE VIOLENCE," and "PEOPLE OF COLOR UNIFIED." One person stands at the front of the procession holding a sign with the words "AMERICA'S MOST UNWANTED" around an image of a pig wearing a police hat.
These photos were taken at a demonstration on May 2, 1992, three days after the L.A. police officers who assaulted Rodney King were acquitted. CAAAV convened a multiracial coalition, "People of Color Against State Violence," to march from City Hall to 1 Police Plaza in protest of police brutality.
