Li explained that a total of nine detainees—including four Chinese detainees—had been consuming only water and salt for the past seven days, with their central demand being release on parole. No doctors at the detention facility had visited them despite their physical discomfort and medical symptoms. Li’s account challenged Wackenhut’s official record, which stated that no detainees had been starving for more than 72 hours.
