CAAAV members and other political organizations joined together to protest the premiere of the film, as it blatantly displays xenophobia and racism toward the Asian community. In the background of the photograph, we see the United Artists Theatres promoting Rising Sun in large, capitalized letters. There is a police barricade that the protestors are behind and a CAAAV sign is being held up in direct protest to the film.
